a long weekend // new orleans

new orleans

if you follow my instagram then it comes as no surprise that i have absolutely fallen in love with new orleans. it’s been on my top places to live even though until last weekend i’d never actually been there. however i am now officially smitten. we were only there for four days but i did my homework to ensure we made the most of them. we chose to spend a few days in the french quarter and then relaxed in the garden district and uptown after that.

we did a lot of walking and the streets of new orleans won me over right away. the historic charm of the architecture and ironwork balconies holds so much character. we did our touristy due diligence by perusing jackson square and eating beignets at cafe du monde, but the rest of our time was spent tucked away in local record shops, eateries, and cozy smoky bars. not to mention hours at the rooftop pool of our hotel.

this scotch bar was his favorite place (possibly in the world). just one street over from all of the madness. you walk in and are instantly transported back in time. the cocktail list is small, but they’ve got scotch for days. and the clientele consists of men in their sixties philosophizing between puffs of sweet cigar smoke.  if you travel to nola, i highly recommend strolling down st. charles avenue to see those epic historic mansions. they are gorgeous. if i strike it rich, i will buy one and end each day sipping on a sazerac on my gigantic balcony. you can join me if you’d like.

here are a few more of my favorite  spots:

for drinks: cure

to stay: the roosevelt hotel

to eat: killer poboys

  1. I really love your photos of New Orleans. It is such a lovely city. I went there for the first time many years ago, and have always wanted to live there and write. Hope you make it back again!
